Best Feel Good Positive Movies & Series
71I love movies and TV series and my particular favourite type has to be the feel good, upbeat kind. They seem to be mostly comedy or romantic comedy and have a good, strong positive message to get out there, be yourself and LIVE!
Here's my run down of the very best feel good movies and series (in my opinion anyway :P) If you have any others to add tell me about them below and if you haven't watched these yet you must, you don't know what you're missing :D
Enjoy!

#5 Shirley Valentine
This 1989 film is one of my favourites. It's the tale of Shirley (Pauline Collins) who is reaching middle age and wondering where her life went. With days filled with cooking, cleaning and shopping, with no one to talk to but the wall she says enough is enough and rediscovers her old spirit and love of life when her friend Jane (Alison Steadman) asks her to go to Greece with her.
The best line that sums up this film is "I've fallen in love with the idea of living. Because we don't do what we want to do, do we? We do what we have to do and pretend that it's what we want to do."
Warning: trailer contains strong language.
#4 Ugly Betty
A short lived series sadly (only 4 seasons) Ugly Betty tells the tale of a young woman trying to make her way in New York in her quest to have a career as a magazine editor.
Taken on by the head of Meade publications because she is 'ugly' and wouldn't temp the bosses son Daniel who is Editor in Chief of the fashion magazine Mode, Betty (America Ferrera) sticks out in a world of stick thin, vain and superficial models, with her colourful, carefree and fun image. She ends up influencing those around her for the better and there is a very strong message to always pick yourself up again whenever you fall and keep true to yourself.
A very funny, quirky, camp and sweet series, Betty is constantly in search of independence, true love and trying to balance work and family life with her father Ignacio, sister Hilda and Hilda's son Justin. I don't think it got the recognition it deserves and they need to Bring Betty Back!!
#3 My Name Is Earl
A VERY funny series about the redneck Earl Hickey (Jason Lee) discovering Karma and trying to make up for all his past misdeeds...which are many and mostly illegal.
Earl makes a list of everything he's done wrong and along with his brother Randy they hunt down all the people Earl hurt in one way or another, trying to make up for them so he can cross them off the list.
Frequently tested by life (and his ex-wife and former partner in crime Joy) Earl takes responsibility for his actions and learns that every action has consequences.
I love the way this series combines an ex-con with dubious morals with an idea normally associated with New Age hippies. Hilariously funny with some top class characters and actors!
#2 Shallow Hal
The message of this film couldn't be more blatant...Hal (Jack Black) is shallow, he's always looking for someone to love the only trouble being he will only accept supermodel-esque women.
After getting stuck in a lift with the legendary self-help guru Tony Robbins, Hal is hypnotised into seeing how beautiful someone's soul is...their true beauty.
Hal then can't believe his luck when pretty much every girl he approaches is interested in him, finally falling head-over-heels for Rosemary (Gwyneth Paltrow), who in 'real' life is 300lbs with a heart of gold. Hal's equally shallow best friend Mauricio (Jason Alexander) is concerned about Hal's sudden change and learns how to de-hypnotize him...will he still love Rosemary or will he give it all up in the name of vanity?
I love this film and wished we all had 'inner-beauty vision'~ the world would be a very different place!
#1. Yes Man
There was no doubt for me what would be number one in this list! Yes Man is not only very funny likeall the others in this run-down but has a fantastic message of 'Say "Yes!" to life'.
Carl (Jim Carrey) says "no" to life and everything in it. He's pushed his friends away, he's in a job he hates and spends his nights alone in front of one DVD after another. A chance meeting with an old friend encourages Carl to attend a YES seminar where he is singled out and made to make the promise to say YES to every opportunity that comes his way, nomatter what it is.
Needless to say this leads Carl into some very funny and bizarre situations, but he learns to enjoy new experiences, make friends and even meets the love of his life Allison (Zooey Deschanel), a spontaneous free-spirit who enjoys music and photography running.
With a perfect cast and genius writing (from 'Join Me' fame Danny Wallace, who also has a cameo), this film makes you want to get up and start finding new things to try. Whatever the outcome at least you know right?
Best line that sums the film: "Allison: I know our music isn't that mainstream — I love doing it. It's like my photography. I know there isn't that much demand for blurry photographs taken while running — but ... you know, who cares? The world's a playground! You know that when you are a kid, but somewhere along the way everyone forgets it."

August Rush to the feel good movie list. It is very inspiring =)
I love Shirley Valentine - it was the first film I ever went to see on my own, which felt very liberating and grown up.

A good hub. I might add Mr. Holland's Opus to this list as well.
