What Is Good About Drinking Water?

With all the yummy juices, teas, sodas and such why would anyone want to drink plain old water?

Well, most of the above mentioned drinks contain sugars, sweeteners, caffeine and more which can damage your health. Also drinking water has many powerful health benefits including weight loss, clear skin, increased energy and a stronger immune system.

Sources Of Drinking Water

It's important to drink a safe and clean type of water. There are many types of drinking waterand they vary in the amount of toxins and minerals they contain:

  • Tap water
  • Filtered water
  • Mineral water
  • Spring water
  • Distilled water

What Is Drinking Water Good For?

The biggest benefit to drinking enough water is that it strengthens your immune system, which in turn helps prevents and heal practically all illnesses~yes including cancers!~ as your immune system (called the lymphatic system) is responsible for clearing out toxins from your blood and ensuring white blood cells are transported to where they are needed. Lymph fluid is made using water and so if your body is not getting enough water, it cannot produce enough lymph fluid to fight disease.

Water helps to oxygenate your blood. This is necessary for energy and nutrients to get to where they are needed.

Surprisingly, water is also wonderful for treating and preventing depression! Water helps our brains produce serotonin which is often referred to as 'the happy hormone'. A lack of serotonin can lead to feeling blue, mood swings and depression.

Water lubricates your body and so is important for healing and preventing several illnesses related to movement~ including joint and digestive health. Well lubricated eyes and mouth also help prevent infection as they are better at keeping bacteria out.

Water flushes out your digestive system. Many diseases start in the gut and the inability to rid toxins and bacteria. A sluggish system will lead to a build up of harmful cells and in turn cause disease.

Symptoms Of Dehydration

Nearly all of us don't drink enough water throughout the day, with an estimated 80% of us being dehydrated at any one time.

You may not notice mild dehydration, but the worse it gets, the worse you'll feel and can lead to serious~ even life threatening~ complications.

Dehydration can cause:

  • thirst (naturally!)
  • headaches
  • lethargy
  • muscle and joint aches
  • loss of appetite
  • dry skin
  • dry mouth
  • dizziness and head rush
  • dark urine
  • decreased urination and sweating
  • palpitations and increased heart rate
  • breathing difficulties
  • decreased cognitive function

Obviously if you have many of the above and symptoms are getting worse, please go and get medical help as they can be signs of something else. I am not a trained professional and this article is not intended to replace common sense and medical advice.

Benefits Of Water For Skin

The skin is the largest organ of the human body and is responsible for not only protecting us, but the pores are used to help rid toxins through sweat.

Water reduces toxins, but not only that it hydrates your entire body and feeds nutrients~ including the skin! Hydrated skin equals elasticity and prevents dry skin.

Because water also increases immune efficiency, your body is equipped to fight bacterial problems of the skin, including spots!

Does Drinking Water Help Lose Weight?

This is a much debated topic, but there is no doubt that water can help weight control to a certain extent:

  • Our bodies produce sugars when we are stressed and if we don't burn them our body will store them as fat. Water prevents depression and so prevents the body creating these sugars.
  • Water helps keep our digestion regular, eliminating harmful and fattening waste.
  • Drinking water before a meal and throughout the day will fill you up and make you less likely to overeat. Also water contains no sugars, fat or caffiene~ all causes of obesity.
  • Water actually prevents water retention and that horrible bloating that comes with it!
